Zinc Cafe, around the corner from our studio, has been our go to lunch spot since 2014. Many vegetarians come through our doors, this is California after all, and Zinc Cafe never disappoints. The best part about Zinc Cafe is Bar Mateo. Tucked in a barn built in 1914 you can find a craft cocktail bar. It sits behind a mature olive grove shared with the Cafe, making it a lovely place to be either day or night.

Full service and full bar makes Bar Mateo a favorite pick for business meetings or off-site strategy sessions. They recognize us whenever we come in. That’s when you know its your local spot. Bar Mateo at Zinc Cafe is a peaceful reprieve from the gritty beauty of our Arts District neighborhood.

The gift shop in the cafe has beautiful products as well. You can check out some of the most popular items on their web store. There is always something seasonal to enjoy when you are there; today it was Halloween cookies and pumpkin sculptures.

The menus for both Bar Mateo and Zinc Cafe are basically the same, with variation depending on whether it is breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner. Bar Mateo has longer hours than the Cafe. It’s open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. They also have a fabulous Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 4 – 7. You’ll find $9 craft cocktails, $5 draught beers, $7 wines by the glass and discounted bar bites. Check it out on Friday, I will probably be there. It is a great way to start your weekend.
